This is a poem I wrote in sixth grade after finishing a book about a girl who wanted more than anything to live in the worlds she wrote about in her journal. It started to break her slowly, this heavy longing. Enjoy!
The stains on her fingers
From the worlds she created
The circles under her eyes
From the nights she wasted
The place in her mind
Where all her ideas are kept
Its a place hard to find
Locked, secret, hidden
The characters are who she longs to be
Far away with wings that will set her free
To run away from this abandoned old town
To be free of the chains that hold her to the ground
Locked, secret, bound
Who will be her hero?
When will she be found
She flies so far away where no one can find
To a palace of her memory that’s one of a kind
Her broken wings no longer fly
She spirals towards the ground to tired to cry
This is it
The ending
the finale
The chapter where it ends
She lived a life alone
A life without knowing her friends
Her spiraling staircase of a life
That cut her up in two
All the ups and the downs
Now she doesn’t know what to do
Suddenly, it stops
The raging storm inside subsides
She is caught all at once
In the arms of the one
She’s forever loved
His strong eyes hold her gaze
Steady and strong
She gets lost in their maze
A complicated song
It happens so fast
There’s no time to explain
The way she feels so broken
She’ll never be fixed again
The stains on her fingers
Turned to scars on her heart
As the worlds she created
Started to tear her apart
How the lives she tried to live
Were snatched from her grasp
And she was doomed to spend her days
Feeling undeniably sad
But now that’s all over
Because she’s being held
By the one who understands
He broke her from her shell
to fine the treasure underneath
He knows what she’s done
He's seen her completely weak
He’s seen all her pain
All her scars and her tears
all her deepest woes
and all of her fears
But now he returns to her her wings
So that she can fly again
